recommends two days of Coaching for Global AdvantageSM,
our signature service, for most global business assignees. For full
information about this innovative methodology, click here.
Two Options for Coaching Delivery GROVEWELL's
two days of expatriate coaching should be separated by several weeks.
We recommend either of two options, each highly effective; these are indicated
by the following charts:
|

| -
- The point of these two examples is not to say that the two coaching sessions must be at any precise time, but rather to note the importance of their being separated by several weeks. These examples also illustrate that a coaching session should not occur only a few days before, nor only a few days after, the actual relocation of the family to the host country. When a client firm requests pre-departure coaching exclusively, we will deliver it. But we do not recommend this because post-arrival coaching is far more effective in terms of the expatriate's applicable learning. Post-arrival coaching is usually more cost-effective as well. When a client firm requests only
one day of coaching, we will deliver it.
Coordination of Cross-Border Coaching When the two coaching sessions are in different nations, our two coaches are in direct contact with each other to insure continuity and individualized responsiveness in our service delivery. GROVEWELL partner Willa Hallowell oversees the cross-border communication and coordination process. The same participant manual is used
during both coaching sessions, even if the first session is in the home
country and the second is abroad.
Coaching Is for the Entire Family Our expatriate coaching is for both the assignee and his or her spouse or domestic partner (if any). We are highly flexible in how we work with couples. In some cases, both are present throughout both coaching days. In other cases, both are present sometimes and only one is present other times. These details are usually determined by coach and couple. Upon request, GROVEWELL will provide specialized adjustment coaching for children between the ages of 6 and 21. Following such coaching, our coach confers with the parent(s) to offer insights and ideas for the child's adjustment success. Children's coaching is by a separate professional; special arrangements are necessary and an additional fee is charged. (Children's coaching is not
based on our Coaching for Global AdvantageSM
methodology, which is appropriate only for adult professionals.)
Where Coaching Takes Place Our coaching often takes place in
the assignee's own home. Other typical locations include a rented
room in a hotel or club. Upon request, we will provide coaching in
our client individual's office complex, but we do not recommend this because
we find that interruptions tend to occur.
Who Delivers GROVEWELL's Coaching Every GROVEWELL expatriate coach is a person of exceptional maturity, experience, and capacity for caring. The average age of our coaches is 45+, and all are highly experienced in international business and well qualified professionally. Almost all have been expatriates themselves. GROVEWELL's partners believe that no other consultancy anywhere consistently assigns expatriate coaches who are as ideally qualified to work with corporate assignees and their families. For 400-word professional biographies of the leading GROVEWELL associates worldwide, click here. The partners insist that, for every
expatriate coaching engagement, their firm makes available two competencies.
One is understanding of, and ability to deliver, GROVEWELL's
signature Coaching for Global Advantage; this is the coach's responsibility.
The second competency is extensive business experience in the target
country. In pre-departure coaching sessions, this may need to
be provided by a second service deliverer, a "resource person," who contributes
under the coach's direction. GROVEWELL's
partners maintain high standards for resource people, especially in terms
of the recency and relevance of their business experience in the
target country.
Availability of On-Going Support Some expatriates need additional
support of one kind or another. We are always available to respond
to such needs. Extensive extra support, of course, results in an
additional fee, negotiated in advance of service.
